Leicester City 1-0 Real Valladolid

Matty Fryatt’s 84th minute goal gave Leicester a hard-fought win over Spanish La Liga side Real Valladolid.

Fryatt was brought onto the field on the hour mark after missing the whole of pre-season with a leg infection. His introduction proved to be decisive as he made the breakthrough with just over five minutes of the game remaining.

Manager Nigel Pearson, however, seemed less than impressed with the performance against the Spanish visitors, whilst also displaying his dismay at Valladolid’s behaviour.

‘I thought it was a poor game, a lot of spoiling tactics from them and there were a lot of decisions I thought weren’t very good as well, so happy to get it out the way without too many injuries and we now look forward to next week.

‘I would like us to have put on a better show than that. Unfortunately it was very difficult to do that because of the style of the game basically.’

Leicester will play Swansea City on Saturday in the opening match of the 09/10 Championship season at the Walkers.

Leicester: Weale; Morrison, Hobbs, Brown Berner, Oakley, A King, Wellens, Dyer, Howard, N’Guessan. Subs Fryatt (60 for N’Guessan), Logan, O’Neill (46 for Morrison), Tunchev, Adams (53 for Oakley), Dickov, Gradel (46 for King), Powell, Neilson, Chambers, Burns (77 for Dyer), Ajdarevic, Verma.
