Leicester City striker Matty Fryatt has been ruled out for two months after receiving surgery for a broken jaw.
Fryatt picked up the double fracture injury in Tuesday night’s drab 0-0 draw with Doncaster as a result of a heavy challenge from Rovers captain Brian Stock.
The former-Walsall forward is Leicester’s top-goalscorer so far this term with eleven Championship goals, and his absence from the first team in the coming eight weeks will be sorely missed.
Manager Nigel Pearson said: ‘He’ll be a big loss but we’ll cope. His welfare comes first.
‘The indications are that he will be out for around eight weeks but the most important thing is that the surgery has gone OK.’
Fryatt’s injury will see a much greater responsibility placed on the shoulders of on-loan Sunderland striker Martyn Waghorn, who currently has five league goals so far this season.
The news comes as a huge blow to City, whose promotion credentials will now be sorely tested in the coming weeks.
