Leicester have won the race to sign Rochdale’s highly-rated left back Tom Kennedy amid a host of Championship interest, according to Sky Sports.

It is thought that fellow Championship rivals Doncaster Rovers were leading the way to secure the services of the 24-year-old, but a late attempt from Nigel Pearson appears to have sealed the deal.

Rumours of the transfer began circulating yesterday, but according to media the player has officially signed a pre-contract agreement that will see him hook up with Pearson and his squad from July 1st.

Kennedy was a regular for Rochdale as they battled to promotion to League One last season, and has also featured in the last two League Two teams of the year.

The young defender will initially join the club as cover for Bruno Berner in the position, but with age on his side the player has clearly been plucked as one for the future.

Kennedy becomes Leicester’s first signing of the summer, and will join the club on on a free transfer.
