Sven-Goran Eriksson has turned his attentions to Manchester United goalkeeper Tomas Kuszczak after failing in his bid to bring Shay Given to the club.

Eriksson had hoped to entice Republic of Ireland international Given to the Walkers Stadium on loan, but the former Newcastle stopper was reluctant to drop to the Championship.

Despite this, Given was allegedly warming to the idea before manager Roberto Mancini scuppered any chances of a potential deal.

Instead the City chief has turned to the red half of Manchester to Kuszczak, who is currently second choice at Old Trafford.

Kuszczak has started in United’s last three fixtures, but first choice Edwin van der Sar is soon ready to return from injury.

Polish international Kuszczak has declared his frustration at the lack of first team opportunities with the Red Devils in the past, and could be tempted with the lure of regular football with Leicester.

Chris Weale has showed encouraging form since taking back over from Chris Kirkland between the sticks, but Eriksson has made no secret of his desires to strengthen the position by looking to the Premier League.
