DJ’s Going, But Where?

Queens Park Rangers and East Midlands rivals Coventry City have entered the race to sign DJ Campbell, according to Sky Sports.

With Campbell’s departure inevitable after an unsuccessful £1.6m switch from Birmingham City in 2007, the only question now is where his next destination will be.

As well as those two clubs, there is also strong interest from Blackpool who took Campbell on loan last season. A successful spell at Bloomfield Road saw him find the net 9 times in 20 appearances, and most Blackpool fans would like to see the player return on a permanent deal. However, the departure of caretaker manager Tony Parkes coupled with Campbell’s wage demands mean a move to the coast is unlikely.

Campbell, 27, is rumoured to be a top earner with Nigel Pearson’s Foxes, and any willing bidders would surely have to come close to his current financial requirements. The notoriously rich QPR, Campbell’s boyhood team, would be the obvious choice as things stand.

The player made his intentions to leave Leicester clear whilst on loan at the Seasiders last season, and it now looks a matter of when and where, not if. Chairman Milan Mandaric will look to recoup as much as possible of Campbell’s initial transfer fee, after spending well over £1m on the player two years ago.
