City – a really good side

It was great to see a full contingent of City players touring the Children’s wards of Leicester Royal Infirmary handing out Christmas presents and seasonal cheer.

The full squad gave their young admirers the chance of a Christmas gift to remember – being filmed with their heroes – and there is no underestimating what that can do for a young patient’s spirits.

My own wife had a lifesaving 12.5-hour brain operation this year and is testimony to the extraordinary skill of front line surgeons but grateful though you are there is, especially for children, no beating having a treat such as the City lads provided for relieving the routines of hospital confinement.

While the youngsters would have been overjoyed, doubtless many of the players would have reflected on just how lucky they are to have their health and fitness and to be out playing football over Christmasl

As the late Liverpool manager Bill Shankly once said: ‘Every day you’ve got life and breath, son, you’ve got a holiday.’

Truer words were never spoken.
