Albrighton Praises Deadly Duo

Winger Marc Albrighton has heaped praise on Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez following their respective form so far this season.

In quotes carried by the Belfast Telegraph amongst many others, from a brief post game press interview he held, Albrighton was clear that Premier League defences were fearing our in form duo.

With Vardy having set a new Premier League record of eleven successive games with a goal, he didn’t managed to keep that going, instead taking one opportunity to assist Mahrez in completing his hattrick instead against Swansea – it was Riyad’s first hattrick since arriving at Leicester all those years ago as an unknown.

With 24 goals between both of them so far this year, and Leicester sitting two points clear at the top of the table, Albrighton explained that clearly teams were wary of us because Swansea was our 16th successive game with a goal as well.

‘We could have been four or five up at half-time and you can see teams fear us going forward. Jamie and Riyad have been brilliant for us this season and who knows where we would be without their goals and creativity. But if they can continue doing it that could play a massive part in what we do this season. The way the season’s going it’s wide open. The big teams are losing games and dropping points which is unusual because they’re normally quite solid. We’ve just got to concentrate on what we do because it’s got us to where we are so far. If we continue doing that we won’t go far wrong.’

With both players already subject of plenty of January transfer speculation, Albrighton said that was no surprise given their form so far, but speculation doesn’t always equal a move so the players including those two, are just focused on the next game and keeping this run going.

‘There will always be speculation, look at Harry Kane last season. He was on fire at Tottenham all season and there was speculation of him going here, there and everywhere. But we’re not worried about speculation, Vards and Riyad both know what they bring to this club and how loved they are here. I don’t think it would do them any good to go anywhere at the minute. We’re top of the league, so why would they want to leave?’

With six wins and two draws from the last eight, it’s definitely a case of long may this continue as we keep proving people wrong.
