Williams off to Watford

Just when Leicester fans thought things couldn`t get much worse, Gareth Williams has just signed for Watford. The 25 year old midfielder has joined the hornets on a two and a half year contract for an undiscolsed fee

Williams had been at Leicester for two and half seasons and managed to make 91 appearances for the club, scoring 6 goals. Rob Kelly is quoted on the official site as saying “Obviously Gareth is a player that I didn’t want to lose, but the club accepted the offer. I had spoken to Gareth with regards to a new contract, but the move to Watford gives him the chance to play Premiership football. That is where he wants to play. In the end we have got the best deal possible for the club, which could free up some funds to allow me to bring in some fresh faces.”

Williams Contract expired at the end of the season, meaning he could leave Leicester for free and this could be one of the reasons the board have decided to let him go. However, the concern for City fans is that Williams was the main creative influence in the midfield. Andy Johnson, James Wesoloski and Danny Tiatto are more reknowned for their defensive attributes and the sale of Williams means the squad is looking even smaller.

Hopefully the sale of Williams means that some funds have been freed up to allow Kelly to add to the squad before the end of the day.
