Arsenal manger Arsene Wenger has said that based on what he knows at the moment, he’s expecting England striker Jamie Vardy to remain at Leicester City this season.

With his release clause met a few weeks go – reported £22million – Arsenal had hoped for a speedy answer from the former non league forward and ahead of him flying off with England for their European Championship campaign.

Two games later – and a goal for our top scorer last season – and news is still extremely thin.

There has been speculation before from sources within the England camp that Vardy was erring on the ‘stay’ side of the decision, and speaking ahead of the Slovakia game next week Vardy himself said he was ‘completely focused’ on the Euros and not his own future yet – and now we have Wenger quoted by desports as saying about chances of taking the player to the Emirates now.

‘No, no. Jamies Vardy is at the moment at Leicester, and on what I know he will stay at Leicester.’

The more this rumbles on the higher the chances are of him rejecting the deal to be honest, but until there’s an official statement there will of course continue to be doubts.
