Richie Wellens is unlikely to return to action until at least October as he recovers from knee surgery for cruciate ligament damage.

Nigel Pearson said the player was making good progress when he spoke to Sky Sports, but confirmed he would be looking for a return around October.

‘Richie is doing very well, this is the first major injury he has had and he’s worked very hard during the summer and is on schedule. He won’t make the start of the campaign, we were looking at October and he is still on track for that. I’m not going to put a deadline, but he is doing well.’
