The site confirmed the three-and-a-half-year deal was struck on the basis of a fee, thought to be £350,000 plus considerable add ons.

The news confirmed the reliability of the Sunday Mercury who announced the done deal yesterday as did a Walkers stadium insider (effectively) even earlier.

The insider contact meanwhile, who posts on Talking Balls as The Fox thought similarly and also said that Fowler, Todorov, Ricardo Fuller, Earnshaw and ex-Manchester United centre-forward Dwight Yorke were discussed by City principals last week.

The Fox insists that he “works at the club” and that fans can expect, not just Fryatt to join, but another signing of note.

Fryatt is an England Under 19 international who remains The Saddlers current leading scorer and was top scorer with 15 goals for them last season.

Born in Nuneaton, Fryatt was also voted Player of the Season and picked up the club’s Goal of the Season award for a spectacular long range volley against Huddersfield when he also completed his first senior hat-trick.

This season Fryatt has notched 11 League goals in 23 appearances plus three cup goals.

In all he’s scored 31 goals in 88 appearances and was a prolific marksman at youth team level.

Described as having skill, pace and sharpness, Fryatt (19) is five feet 10 inches tall and weighs 11 stones.

He was previously with Carlisle and joined Paul Merson’s Walsall in 2003/4 on loan in the first instance.

Fryatt will wear the number 12 shirt at City, the same number he wore for Walsall.

It’s the longest time in a manager’s life when a player goes away to think about an offer. I’ll believe it when it happens. l
