Nigel Pearson has said it would be brilliant to have Darius Vassell back before the end of the season, but the pressure isn’t on the player to recover too quickly.

Speaking to the Leicester Mercury Pearson said he wasn’t sure if a return this season was possible, but Vassell was making good progress following his cruciate ligament surgery after the West Ham game in October.

‘He is well into his rehab, doing very well and making decent progress. But he is not under a lot of pressure to get back, it would be a bonus to have him back before the end of the season.

In terms of injuries, Pearson also said he was pleased to see Aleksandar Tunchev return to the pitch against Palace following his injury worries, and the substitution was purely tactical.

‘I just thought I wanted to change it because he hasn’t had a lot of pitch time, but it was good to get him back out there. He still has a significant role to play for us.’
