On-loan Chelsea left-back Patrick van Aahnholt looks set for a month on the sidelines after tearing a muscle.

The 20-year-old has featured six times for the Foxes this campaign, but will be resigned for a spell out with the injury.

Leicester chief Sven-Goran Eriksson confirmed the setback, saying: “Patrick will be out for three, maybe four weeks.

“We have options – Bruno Berner is a left-back, Kyle Naughton has played left-back in the past and Miguel Vitor can play right-back so we don’t need to ring the alarm bell.

“But it’s a pity because Patrick has been very good for us,” the Swede added.

The Dutch Under-21 international has been a regular feature for Eriksson since arriving on loan from Stamford Bridge, but will not feature for City in their crucial March fixtures against QPR and Norwich.

The injury spells out another unfortunate turn of events for City’s left-back spot, after Manchester City loanee Greg Cunningham suffered a broken leg at Hull City on New Year’s Day.

Bruno Berner looks most likely to deputise for the young Dutchman, a dependable character who should perform for Eriksson when called upon.
