Trouble ahead?

Rob Kelly has only been in the managers position for 9 months but there are small rumblings amongst the fans that maybe he wasn’t the right man for the job. Even though last season Kelly changed Leicester into a team that took 28 points from the last 16 games.

Leicester have started poorly this season and find themselves at the wrong end of the table, which is where they spent the majority of last season. The fans are starting to worry because they are watching the same kind of football which was played under Levein.

Although Leicester seem solid enough at the back, they lack a creative influence in attack and are struggling to score goals. The club keep emphasing the fact City have a young team but it doesn’t mean that the Leicester fans will forgive consistently poor performances and lack of attacking flair.

It is only the beginning of the season and there is still time for Kelly and the players to start to pick up some wins and quickly move up the table. Back to back wins would immediately get rid of the doubting Thomas’s in the crowd and give everybody connected with the club a huge boost.

The problem for Kelly is that the next four games see he come up against Birmingham (a), Southampton (h), Leeds (a) and Crystal Palace (h). All four of these games will be tricky games and Leicester will have to play at the top of their game if they want to take points from any of the games.

If they can pick up a couple of wins it will show the fans that the team can play against some of the bigger teams and might take some pressure off the manager. However, if Leicester were to struggle in all 4 games and only pick up a couple of draws, then the knives will br out and the fans may start to voice their concern in larger numbers.

The League Cup draw last Saturday saw Aston Villa drawn to play Leicester and the return of Martin O’Neill. Most fans would give their right arm for the former manager to be back as Leicester manager, due to the success Leicester achieved under O’Neill.

However, the fans should remember that when O’Neill started off as Leicester manager, he also suffered several poor performances and the fans voiced their concerns. O’Neill never forgot this and when he had turned Leicester around didn’t fail to mention it at every possible opportunity.

Although Kelly took over at the end of last year, he has only officially been manager from the start of this season and he should be given time to work things out. Although the fans have a right to be worried about how Leicester are playing, calling for the managers head so early into the season is not going to help matters on the pitch.
