With some off on international duty and others recovering post game as we go into the lull, Kasper Schmeichel, Marc Albrighton and Yohan Benalouane have all given their thoughts on victory over West Ham United last weekend.

Beginning with Schmeichel with his exploits between the sticks well known in the three two victory at the London Stadium, he was quoted by on Monday as saying it was all about the team performance once more and not about his own stellar showing.

‘It was very, very tough in the second half but I think we did really well and perhaps some tiredness from Tuesday night showed a little. We managed to get three points which is three on the spin. It`s very important for us.’

With his own stops on the day, not least the extremely close range stop from Andy Carroll, Schmeichel went on to say.

‘It`s my job. That one with Carroll at the end you`ve just got to hope that he hits you and that`s what he did. We had a lot of tired legs out there but that`s where the mentality comes in. We`re a strong group missing our captain but I thought Yohan, with Huthy next to him, did really, really well. Brilliant.’

As for Albrighton, he focused in on the effort the players put in during the second period to ensure that the hosts didn’t come back into the tie.

‘Even coming in at half-time 3-1 up, some people might say it looked comfortable, but as far as we were concerned, we knew we`d get a reaction from them. We had to be ready for that because we were right – they did come out and they showed resilience.’

With set pieces working for us on the day, Albrighton went on to say.

‘We`ve got a few routines that we`d like to try every now and then. Sometimes it`s best to just put the ball in, but there`s other times other times that if it feels good and looks good on the pitch then we can try something different. Today it`s come off and it looks like a very good goal.’

Schmeichel obviously came in for praise.

‘He`s been fantastic since I`ve come to the Club. I`ve seen what a good goalkeeper he is and the last two games, he`s been immense. He`s won us both the games. He`s been superb for us and we know he`s got that quality.’

Finally to Benalouane who made his first Premier League starting appearance of the year in the match – in fact it was his first league start full stop following his arrival in August 2015.

‘I was very happy and we made a good game. We got three massive points in the Premier League and I hope we can continue in this way. I was good in the cup and today was a possibility to play so I showed something and I hope to come back again to play. We need to keep going with all the team and I hope we can make something more in the next game. We have two months and we have to keep going. We have to train a lot to make something important for the end of season.’

Up against Carroll on the day, he had praise for the overall defensive showing to keep them that goal behind come the final whistle.

‘He`s a really good player. He`s big and tall but with Rob Huth we made a good job today and we fought very well. Congratulations to him for the goal but the most important thing is to have three points today. The result is the most important because we continued in the Premier League after winning in the Champions League so the atmosphere was good.’
