Ton up clash for teams in slow lane

Long term bragging rights are on the line when Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday clash for the 100th time at Hillsborough tomorrow.

Leicester are currently in a run of four games unbeaten against the Owls but Paul Sturrock has given clear notice that he rapidly intends to change his club’s fortunes.

He’s already signed three players in the transfer window, two strikers in Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay and full-back Peter Gilbert from Leicester.

Whether Gilbert will play having had a minor injury remains to be seen but he will certainly be able to have first-hand input on the City squad.

Already results have started to pick up for Sheffield who have moved out of the drop zone and are now one place higher than City in the Championship table.

With City’s options seriously depleted, the game is likely to be much tighter than the relatively comfortable 2-0 victory Leicester enjoyed at the Walkers in September, courtesy of two Mark DeVries goals.

City’s availabity situation has eased slightly for manager Craig Levein because Patrik Gerrbrand and Patrick Kisnorbo are both back in full taining after injury and illness respectively.

Matches between the clubs go back to the 1899-1900 season when a goalless draw was played out at Filbert Street,

But it was eight games and a long time before City achieved their first success in the then steel City, winning 4-1 in 1924-25.

Leicester have won two and drawn two in their latest games against Wednesday but will certainly wish to avoid anything like their 7-1 trouncing in the League Cup at Hillsborough in 1992/93.

And a repeat is unlikely. All factors suggest a tactical rather than an expansive game.
