The Window of Opportunity Awaits

Yes, Wednesday will see the transfer window spring right back open, ready for the flurry of transfer activity that awaits us over the next month or two.

For Leicester manager Nigel Pearson it will also be the first opportunity to see some of his new signings in action, as the Foxes playing staff return to pre-season training.

Pearson has already signed Wayne Brown, Jack Hobbs, Robbie Nielson, Chris Weale and Dany N’Guessan since Leicester were crowned as League One champions, and there will undoubtedly be more to come.

Another goalkeeper is a must, whilst a full back would also be useful as Pearson looks to build a team capable of Championship competition. Speculation will continue about the possibility of Arsenal right back Kerrea Gilbert returning to the club on a permanent basis, whilst there could also be room for Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale to secure a second loan move to the Walkers.

There is much needed cover and competition for Lloyd Dyer down the left hand side, with Dany N’Guessan’s arrival hopefully providing this. N’Guessan is something of an unknown quantity at Championship level after joining from League Two Lincoln, thus the risks are already visible.

In terms of the strikeforce, at least two will surely be required. It cannot be left solely to the devices of top-goalscorer last season Matty Fryatt and partner Steve Howard, with Paul Dickov unlikely to have much impact at Championship level. The proposed transfer of Simon Cox fell through after Leicester refused to match Swindon’s asking price, so Pearson will continue his search for the men to score the goals that have been distinctly lacking in Championship seasons gone by.

Rumours are thin on the ground of late, but there will no doubt be significant signs of activity at the Walkers Stadium this summer. Chairman Milan Mandaric has previously mentioned that there is a strong likelihood of three or four more players still to come in the next couple of months, with no immediate indications of who could be heading the other way.
