Sven swoops for Davies

Sven-Goran Eriksson has wasted no time in the transfer market, bringing in Aston Villa centre-back Curtis Davies on a one month loan deal.

Leicester snapped up Tottenham full-back Kyle Naughton on loan until January earlier this week, and Eriksson has made his second signing to help shore up City’s leaky defence.

Davies has been out of favour at Villa Park for some time, claiming that former manager Martin O’Neill never game him a fair opportunity at the club.

The centre-back has made just two appearances this season so far, starting in Villa’s UEFA Cup draw at Rapid Vienna and coming on as a substitute in the Carling Cup victory over Blackburn last month.

Injuries have hampered what was once a promising career for Davies, who signed for Villa for around £8.5 million from West Brom in July 2008.

But Eriksson has handed the 25-year-old an opportunity to impress at Leicester, who may wish to decide to extend the loan period further should the stopper impress.
