It was being reported yesterday that Craig Shakespeare was tracking former Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna.

ESPN reported that Leicester were weighing up a move for the free agent and apparently ‘sources close to the player’ were the ones who’d informed them.

Sagna can of course join a new side outside of the transfer window owing to the fact he’s a free agent having left City earlier in the summer but given the ‘source’ referenced for this deal, it smacks more of an agent trying to court interest in the player – but of course it doesn’t mean we haven’t been in touch.

The 34 year old spent three seasons with Manchester City after making the move to them from Arsenal, and he made 85 appearances in total for the club – starting 17 Premier League games last season – but his deal was not extending.

The report also links him to Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Torino, Besiktas and Buraspor.
