It’s being reported that Leicester City have now begun contract negotiations with goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The ever present during the Premier League title winning campaign last season, is said to be set to be rewarded with a new long term five year deal to ward off suitors with his stock ever increasing.

His current deal ties him to Leicester until the summer of 2018 and the Leicester Mercury report that his new deal will see him rewarded as one of the best paid stoppers in the Premier League – it’s said he will receive a six figure moving him into the same sorts of brackets as Manchester United’s David de Gea and Manchester City’s Joe Hart.

Having kept 15 clean sheets last season and plenty of speculation linking him with a move away, his first team spot is not said to be in doubt though given the agreement that is said to have been reached with German stopper Ron-Robert Zieler.

Whilst the deal is yet to be made official despite reports of a medical, Mark Schwarzer is out of contract and Ben Hamer is recovering from a foot operation, so Zieler will come in as back up.

Bold.dk have Schmeichel saying about his potential arrival.

‘Of course, we have to pick up reinforcements. I also expect that we pick one more. Schwarzer’s contract expires, so I knew that something was coming. It is natural when we must fight on four fronts next season.’
