Royle, Reid or Souness

Joe Royle, Peter Reid and Graeme Souness.

These are the names of Milan Mandaric’s shortlist according to the BBC today.

All have apparently been interviewed for the manager’s job and with none of them currently attached to a club, Milan should have his choice in by the weekend.

But hang on a minute! Why aren’t they in a job and what can they give to Leicester.

Why is Milan after the unemployed (unemployable?)

Milan has done it before when it came to Gary Megson and seems to have no problem with appointing managers that are currently out of work. It’s cheap and quick and let’s face it, who would give up a solid Championship or even League 1 job to come here at the moment?

Joe Royle

Royle last worked with Ipswich, twice guiding the club to a playoff spot but failing to get them into the top flight.

Royle’s last season at the club wasn’t going as well, although that could be attributed to the loss of Darren Bent, Shefki Kuqi and Tommy Millar.

Royle likes his teams to play attacking football, but there may be fears he is past it

Peter Reid

Cheer up Leicester fans, here comes Peter Reid. The ex-England internationals early managerial record is impressive, twice guiding Sunderland into the top flight.

It soon went a bit pear shaped however as Sunderland stuggled to survive and were ultimately relegated. Reid stepped in to save struggling Leeds, but again this proved only to be delaying the inevitable and with Leeds still struggling Reid went to Coventry.

At Coventry Reid failed to make any sort of promotion challenged and was eventually replaced by a certain Micky Adams.

Graeme Souness

Souness has failed to match his feats as a player on the managerial stage.

He has found himself managing some big name clubs however with Rangers Liverpool, Galatasary and most recently Newcastle amongst them.

Possibly his finest moment as manager was in guiding Blackburn back to the playoffs and picking up some silverware in the form of the League Cup.

Europe followed but then it all started to fall apart and few Blackburn fans were upset when Newcastle came calling.

Who would you pick?

Well, those seems to be the front runners, who would you pick? Would you stick with Burrows and Taggart, will Milan surprise us all at the last moment?

It would appear we have not long to find out as the new manager should be unveiled in time for Preston.

Hmm, all of them have managed in the Premiership, and all of them have managed in the Championship, each of them have taken a team into the top flight which is exactly what we are looking for.

I can see the thinking but ultimately all these managers have failed, and more than once!! [Edited by alexandra]

  • Auckland Owl says:

Have you knocked on Paul Jewell’s door?

  • Geheee says:

I would have hoped that Milan would have begged Jewell to come before even thinking of appointing one of the above.

  • dazza71 says:

I am sur out of the three Joe Royle’s got the most experience and also at Championship level.

  • will it ever happen says:

Got to agree with some of the others about Jewell, would be the ideal man to get,
