Hollywood actor Michael Sheen has rather bizarrely given his take on how Richard III would have sounded commentating on England and Leicester man Jamie Vardy.

Be fair – it’s a quiet new day – so I might as well do something.

The 47 year old from films like Frost/Nixon has recorded a short clip for the BBC pretending to be the Plantagenet King taking up one of his hobbies – football commentating.

Recreating the moment Vardy made Premier League history with his consecutive run of games with a goal from earlier in the campaign – he netted his eleventh against former holder Ruud van Nistlerooy’s Manchester United back in November – well listen to it yourself.

Must admit, I don’t know what Richard III is supposed to sound like but for me it went from Kenneth Williams into a Dalek at one stage.

A BBC spokesman explained.

‘Some people are putting down their success to supernatural forces because Richard III was reburied at Leicester Cathedral last year. So we asked Michael Sheen to interpret how the king would have delivered the commentary of BBC Leicester’s Ian Stringer.’

I’m not sure if this is supernatural, bizarre or surreal but whatever floats your boat I guess.
