Following today’s clash between Newcastle United and Leicester City, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Newcastle United hosted Leicester City at St James’ Park for a 5.30pm kick off on Saturday December 9, with the visitors taking a three two victory on the day.

Newcastle opened the scoring in the fourth minute through Joselu as Newcastle celebrated their 125th anniversary, but Leicester hit back via Riyad Mahrez in the 20th minute. Leicester took advantage through Andre Gray on the hour mark before Dwight Gayle tied matters up again. The points were decided as Ayoze Perez was credited with an own goal four minutes from time.

It was Leicester’s third win on the spin as they move up to ninth place with Claude Puel gaining 17 points from eight games since replacing Craig Shakespeare in the hotseat, but Newcastle will feel disappointed to have not taken something from the tie as they continue the form that has seen them take only a point from the last seven matches, leaving them three points above the dropzone.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Neil Swarbrick blew the final whistle, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez explained.

‘It was another mistake (third goal). We have to learn and have more experience and manage it better. We have seen two or three situations with the same kind of goals. It is sometimes a lack of experience. The way we concede, for confidence, it is difficult but we have to keep going. We have to improve the things we are not doing well at the moment. These kind of mistakes, you cannot make in the Premier League and we are doing it week in, week out.’

Leicester manager Claude Puel in his comparitive interview explained.

‘We had a fantastic, positive attitude. It is difficult. After a good first half our start to the second half was not enough. We came back with the second goal. It was a fantastic move and a fantastic goal. We deserved this result and now it is important to continue from this result. We played against a good team. They played in a fantastic atmosphere and it was difficult. We showed fantastic spirit. It is a fantastic feeling at the end with the third goal and we deserved it.’
