Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has called on the fans to give N’Golo Kante a warm welcome prior to kick off.

The logic is simple, welcome him back for the one year he had with us as we charged to the Premier League title, and then come kick off, he’s the enemy.

Speaking to the media in his pre match press conference yesterday, Kante’s return to the King Power Stadium wasn’t overlooked in the questioning and it will be his first return to the club since his summer departure to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking about Kante and the role he plays for Chelsea, Ranieri said firstly that we played him in a slightly different way, but players move on and he should receive a warm welcome ahead of kick off for what he helped us achieve last season.

‘Maybe he was more important for us than Chelsea because Chelsea have so many defensive midfielders. I saw him in the last matches and he played just in front of the defensive line to recover balls. With us, he did another kind of job.’

‘I am happy to welcome him back and I’m sure our fans appreciate what he did last season and give him a warm welcome back. Clap him at the beginning but then he is an enemy.’

Following his reported £5million arrival from Caen in 2014, Kante made 39 appearances for us in 2015/16 and he departed with a Premier League winners medal amongst many other plaudits from his performances that season.
