Manager Claudio Ranieri has reflected on an uncharacteristic display from Leicester City in the weekend’s trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.

Losing the game pretty comprehensively four one on the day, Ranieri admitted the side had struggled so far this year to consistently find the spark we had last season – but in some ways that had always been expected as he’s said from day one this would be an incredibly tough season.

However last Saturday we certainly didn’t help ourselves and that’s not usually the case.

Speaking to in his post game press conference, a disappointed Ranieri explained.

‘It`s very strange because the first 20 minutes we started well, moved the ball quickly and put them under pressure. Suddenly then we conceded a goal with a corner and that`s strange because we`re strong on the corner. Today we conceded three goals from corners. It`s strange too because we switched off. We lost our confidence and strength. We started to try to do something but alone, not as a team. Now I want to speak with the players to understand what happened.’

With improvement in the second half and Demarai Gray’s consolation, it wasn’t enough to change the result as we found ourselves four nil down at that time, but it at least gave some positives for the gaffer ahead of the next match.

‘We changed system and the shape. I wanted to preserve Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez for the next match, Tuesday against Porto for the Champions League. Also I wanted to test 4-3-3. We made a very good second half and we scored a goal, a great goal from Demarai Gray. I want to say thank you to our fans, because they supported and encouraged us until the end.’
