Manager Claudio Ranieri has honoured his promise to buy the squad pizzas today following the clean sheet against Crystal Palace last week – but I doubt many of them expected to be making their lunch!

Combining the tasty treat for the clean sheet with a team bonding session, Ranieri didn’t quite have the first team squad dressed up as chefs, but they certainly got their fingers dirty.

Speaking to following the event (link contains some photos as well) Ranieri explained that he felt it had been a good exercise for the group but more importantly he was a man of his word.

‘I pay! I think they deserve this pizza and today we will eat. It`s good to stay together for something good other than football. I think also this could help to make a very good spirit for each other. I hope they enjoy it today. The most important ingredient for us is team spirit. The second is that they enjoy the training sessions. That is important when they come, they know they can work hard but also enjoy.’

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was also interviewed at the session, and he explained that the camp had enjoyed it.

‘It`s a bit of a light-hearted gesture by the manager and one that`s been taken on board by everyone quite well and we`re looking forward to having pizza together as a team. Also it was important to get a clean sheet. We hadn`t got one this season and it was important to keep that momentum going.’
