Derby County manager Nigel Clough has moved to sign striker DJ Campbell on loan from Leicester City until January.

Clough has recently declared his interests in a striker with pace to add to his floundering front line, and has turned to the out-of-favour Campbell at City.

The Derby manager said: ‘I’m really pleased we’ve managed to get the deal done to bring DJ here.

‘He has raw pace and as I’ve said already this week that is something we’ve been missing up top’.

It was reported that Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday had tabled a late bid for Campbell, but it is the Rams who have come away with their man on this occassion.

Campbell has struggled to work his way into Nigel Pearson’s plans ever since the latter joined the club, with only three substitute appearances to his name so far this campaign.

A loan spell at Blackpool last year saw the striker finish as top goalscorer at Bloomfield Road, with 9 goals in 19 appearances to help save the Seasiders from relegation.

However, just four goals in 38 appearances for the blue and white of Leicester since a £1.6million switch from Birmingham City speaks volumes for the struggles faced at the Walkers for the striker.
