As Leicester fans travel up to Stockport for tonight’s game some might wonder what type of team City will be facing come kick off. Due to this we asked the editor of Vital Stockport a few questions to allow Leicester fans a bit of background information.

Name: Stockport County
Nickname: The Hatters
Ground: Edgeley Park
Position Last season: 22nd

What are your hopes for Stockport in the up coming season?

Well most people are hoping for just an easy season after last season, but I seriously think we have a chance of pushing up towards the play-offs. Basically for those of you that don’t know, we stayed up on the last day after being 5 points adrift on New Years Day. In the first half of the season, we were awful. We lost 6-0 twice; one of them was in our local derby away at Macclesfield and in front of around 3,000 travelling fans. The following day (after the Macc game), Turner got sacked and Jim Gannon was appointed and from there we just changed. We looked much better and stayed up with a draw against the champions on the last day in front of a packed Edgeley Park.

Who is County’s most important player?

Views will most probably be mixed on this. For me it was Tes Bramble, a striker who scored less than 10 goals last season. But in the second half of the season he was in immense form and played a part in most goals that were scored.
Also we have just re-signed Tony Dinning who is a club legend and helped us up to the First Division back in 1996-97. He is a real battler of a midfielder and has been appointed club captain.

Do Stockport have a young prospect for the future?

There’s a couple, the youth system here is really good.

James Tunnicliffe went on trial at Liverpool and Southampton last season

Adam Le Fondre came through the youth system, and was used as a super sub last season – he reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United.

Ashley Williams we signed from Hednesford Town, and he was reportedly ready to go to Everton at the end of the 04-05 season but never went.

James Spencer, the goalkeeper, is reportedly been tracked by West Brom all the time but nothing has ever come of it – the same with Michael Raynes the centre half.
