Pearson leaves for Hull

Leicester will be on the hunt for their ninth manager in just over three years after Nigel Pearson’s shock move to Hull City was confirmed today.

Chairman Milan Mandaric said in a statement: ‘We were greatly surprised to receive the initial approach from Hull. The past few years have been a turbulent time for both me and the supporters at Leicester City.

We have been striving to get a degree of continuity at the Club; however, Nigel has done a fantastic job for us and it would have been wrong of us to deny him the opportunity to speak to another club if he wished.

After speaking to him, we have reluctantly agreed that if he wished to pursue this opportunity at Hull, we would permit it.

I am deeply grateful to Nigel for everything he has done for the club. He has put together the foundations of a strong squad and it is now up to us to find a manager to build on those foundations.’

Strong rumours regarding the potential switch began circulating on Friday, with several reputable news sources claiming that a deal was almost complete.

The news certainly comes as a bitter blow to City fans, who, after seasons of managerial turmoil, finally saw their side being lead by a man who brought success.

League One title glory in Pearson’s first season in charge was followed by a superb play-off finish upon the club’s return to the Championship.

Many have been left puzzled by his switch to recently relgated Hull, who have significant financial worries of their own to deal with.

But Milan Mandaric must now begin his search for yet another new manager, leaving Leicester fans in limbo about their prospects next season.
