Nigel Pearson has confirmed that Paul Konchesky missed the game against Derby owing to a potential move away from the club.

Speaking following the game about the 32 year old, Pearson said.

‘I thought it was in the best interests of the player and ourselves that he was omitted from the squad. There has been speculation about potential moves away, but I can say he is still our player and I will speak to Paul again on Monday.’

The speculation is that Queens Park Rangers were interested in him, but there are reports today suggesting that a move has broken down owing both to wage demand problems, but also citing that having talked to QPR, Konchesky would prefer to stay with us.

I’d imagine if it has fallen through, there will be some kind of confirmation before the end of the night.
