Brace goalscorer Shinji Okazaki has said that the timing of Chelsea’s goals in the League Cup loss to Chelsea on Tuesday evening made life difficult for the side.

Having had the two nil lead through Okazaki’s first half brace, Chelsea pilled one back just before the half time mark, and hit quickly after the restart. Down to ten men, they then scored twice in extra time to take the third round tie, and Okazaki told lcfc.com that the timing of the first goal came at the worst possible time for us.

‘We`re very disappointed about the game because we lost. We had a good start but Chelsea`s second half was very strong. We lost one goal in the last minute of the first half and it changed the atmosphere of the game. Then it went to 2-2 but we had good spirit. Also, playing 10 men against 11 men is very difficult but we played 120 minutes in a good game.’

With his own brace on the day and his first goals of the campaign, that was obviously a high point and he hoped the confidence from that would see him build on his goal tally nicely in the coming games.

‘For me, scoring two goals is important because I`m a striker. I didn`t score for a long time and I scored, so it`s okay. It`s very important for me to keep going.’
