Sven-Goran Eriksson has swooped to sign Tottenham right-back Kyle Naughton on loan until January.

England Under-21 international Naughton was expected to join fellow Championship strugglers Portsmouth, but the deal fell through as a result of personal differences.

As a result Leicester have made their move for the Spurs defender, who spent the back half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough.

Naughton, who has six caps at Under-21 level, broke through the ranks at Sheffield United where he rose to prominence in the 2008/09 season.

During that campaign he was featured in the Championship team of the year, scooped the Blades’ young player of the season and was second only to Matthew Kilgallon in the club’s senior accolade.

His performances at Bramall Lane prompted Tottenham to make their move for the youngster, but first team opportunities ever since have been limited.

Naughton looks set to go straight into Eriksson’s squad for the visit of Hull on Saturday, and could head straight into the City first team.

naughton is a very decent player, but I seriously doubt he will make it at Spurs as the competition is huge for the RB position, however it would be great to be proved wrong if he gets regular football and regains some seemingly lost confidence.

I agree with you oxfordspur. He has competiton at spurs from Corluka and Hutton. But at Leicester he is gonna get competition from Nielson and Lamey, who are to good players. i think this was a bad move for him to make.

Naughton will almost definitely play ahead of Nielson and Lamey now he’s here. I’m very pleased with this one, he looked a cracking prospect at Sheffield United.

absolutely gutted what a player kyle is he was awsome for us and has been killed as a player at spurs as all young prospects are there. why the hell we didnt go back in for him i’ll never know. we sold him for £5m which was an absolute steal. he supports the blades as does all him family really really dissapointed we didn’t go in for him as surely he would have chose us above leicester!! you have got the divisions best left and right back by a country mile…gutted!!

in fairness you probably know more about him that we do at Spurs and from what I saw of him at SU he looked a genuinely exceptional player, but has looked rather overawed at Spurs and I wonder if he hasnt really settled in London. Interesting that he khas again looked superb with Leicester.
