Leicester City skipper Wes Morgan has said that the players want to be ambitious this year and start looking up the table after a largely disappointing Premier League campaign last season.

Spending most of our reigning Premier League campaign in the bottom reaches of the table whilst enjoying success in our Champions League run, ending the season strongly under Craig Shakespeare gave everyone a lift and Morgan wants to see us continue that this term.

Speaking to as build up continues to tonight’s season opener against Arsenal, our skipper explained.

‘I think we can just go out there and do as best as we can. Last season was a bit different to the season before that when we won the Premier League. We were in the bottom half for most of the season so this season we don`t want to be there again. We want to be looking up rather than down. We`ll play each game, pick up points and see where we can go.’

The 33 year old went on to talk about new centre half signing Harry Maguire and how he felt he had settled at the club across pre season as they look to strike up a partnership in the heart of defence.

Morgan has been very impressed with him, but he saw his quality during his time with Sheffield United and then Hull City in particular.

‘Looking at him at Hull, I always thought he was a good player, but he`s come across and he`s much better than I actually thought he was. When you play with someone, you learn to see how good they are. He`s a young lad and he`s got a bright future ahead so I`ve been very impressed so far and there`s a lot more to come.’

Speaking about our new signings in general with Shakespeare also adding Eldin Jakupovic, Vicente Iborra and Kelechi Iheanacho to our ranks, Morgan was impressed with our summer dealings.

‘They`ve come in and they`ve all looked good. We`ve signed a ‘keeper, defender, midfielder and striker so we`ve recruited in all the key positions and they`ve looked good so far. I`ve been in with Harry the longest and he`s really impressed me so I look forward to see what he can do come the start of the season.’
