Manager Nigel Pearson has said that defender Liam Moore still has a big part to play at the club despite his loan move to Brentford for the remainder of the season.

That’s why he insisted on a 28 day recall clause.

In quotes carried by the Leicester Mercury ahead of the game against Manchester City on Wednesday evening, the gaffer was asked about Moore and he said.

‘I think for Liam it is more a case of seeing if we can get some game time for him and see if he can rediscover some of the early season form. You don’t become a player who is surplus to requirements. He is a very talented lad. He still has a bright future but, at the moment, we will see, and if Liam does as well, it’s an opportunity for him to get some pitch time.’

Having fallen down the pecking order since his injury, Moore also has one eye on the England under 21 squad for the summer’s European Championships in Czech Republic, and regular game time will help that as he spoke about himself previously.

Pearson said of that the loan would obviously help, but for him to focus was on how it would benefit the club.

‘The easy answer would be yes (England) but the better answer would be let’s keep it in perspective. First and foremost our priority is Leicester City and Liam as well, for him to be better prepared for us when he comes back. If a product of that is increased chances of playing in the national side, then very good. But it’s about him being in a better situation for us when we need him.’

With striker Chris Wood also heading out on loan to Ipswich and making his debut for them at the weekend, the gaffer also said it would be good for him given the ankle injury he had, as it will get him more regular action and aide his fitness and form as well.
