Nampalys Mendy has revealed that he wants to return to France and preferably join Ligue 1 club Bordeaux.

Mendy came into Leicester last summer for a reported £13million quid, making the switch from Nice, but he hasn’t had the best time of it, limited to only eight starting appearances and one substitute showing having been plagued by an ankle injury throughout the year.

Despite signing a four year deal, it seems the player himself would now like to move on and put this experience behind him.

The 25 year old has told French outlet L’Equipe that he wants to join Bordeaux Girondins this summer, and hopefully as soon as possible.

‘I heard about the interest of Nantes but neither me nor my adviser were contacted. Anyway, since my advisor talked to me about the possibility of joining Bordeaux, I’m fixing on it. If I come back to France, it will be in Bordeaux or anywhere else. I lost a year in England because of a failed ankle surgery, which unfortunately necessitated a second surgery in March. Even if I am not 100% yet, I am coming from an excellent phase of rehabilitation at the CERS of Saint-RaphaĆ«l which I would like to thank warmly all the staff. And now I have the hope of rallying the Girondins fairly quickly. It’s even an obsession.’

An obsession eh.

A quick resolution would probably be a season long loan and that appears to be the implication, with a permanent clause built into the deal but it’s certainly one to watch now as going public so quickly certainly implies his mind is made up, despite his existing contract.
