Our 1-0 win over Stockport County in the Carling Cup on Tuesday evening was marred by an injury to our highly talented, and highly rated youngster Joe Mattock.

The win, secured by a goal from the nights captain Steve Howard, was soured by the injury to the England U21 star who was taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle. Thankfully this original diagnosis isn’t as bad as first feared but he had suffered serious ligament damage, which Nigel Pearson confirmed.

The City gaffer is still disappointed by this injury to Mattock, and he will be out for several weeks but he also realises that it is much better than first feared.
