Leicester City’s Joe Mattock made his England Under-21 debut today. At the age of just 17, Mattock became the second youngest player ever to represent England at this level.

Mattock played the full 90 minutes in England’s U-21 European qualifier against Bulgaria, which England won 2-0, goals from Agbonlahor and a penalty from James Milner.

Mattock, who made his Leicester debut in April this year, had previously made appearances for England at U-17 and U-19 level before being called up by U-21 manager Stuart Pearce as a late replacement in the squad along with fellow City player Richard Stearman.

Mattock signed a three year contract with Leicester in the close season keeping him at the club until 2010.

Richard Stearman, who was also called up to the U-21 squad was an unused substitute for the match.

Both players will travel to Portugal for England’s next qualifier on the 20th.

He had a good steady game and you have certainly got a talented youngster. Just hope you can keep the premiership vultures at bay!!

I’m still hoping the rumours from way back about Stearman coming to the Villa are true as he looks a good player.
