There was me thinking silly season was over for a bit with the January transfer window closing – Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is linked with Liverpool.

I suppose it makes a change from never ending invention about Riyad Mahrez, but they could’ve waited until we were at least half way through February before beginning this nonsense again.

Anyway, Nigerian outlet the New Telegraph are reporting that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has targeted Ndidi as a potential summer recruitment, feeling he’ll be the perfect replacement for 32 year old Emre Can who is out of contract come the summer.

Now there’s a sense to this, as the article points out, Ndidi’s hit life running in the top flight following is arrival from Genk and few miss Ngolo Kante given the youngsters ability to break up play and he’s not afraid of a tackle either, and he is the type of player that Liverpool lack – especially at his young age – when you look at their available options in Can and James Milner who gets a foot in.

But a supposed transfer fee of around 75million Euros given the line we’ve taken with Mahrez?

Factor in he’s a regular and impressing, consider his age and the considerable development potential he has – I just can’t see it happening.

One thing the report seems to forget though is the impending arrival of Naby Keita come the summer and whilst some would say there is room for both, many others would see Keita as the first pick and given the game time he’s getting I’m not sure Ndidi would jump for the money to sit on the bench.
