That is the outcome of this week’s board meeting where considerable speculation surrounded the manager’s future at the Walker’s

And afterwards Levein told the Leicester Mercury’s Bill Anderson that his first priority was to find a striker to cash in on the chances being created.

All indications are that Levein’s budget will be tightly limited. There is some cash but loan deals are more likely.

As Levein began his search however, Sky Sports website said that one of Leicester’s hotly touted targets, Lincoln City centre-back Gareth McAuley was heading for Crewe.

Lincoln have reportedly accepted a £150,000 bid from the Railwaymen and gave every impression that the move would go ahead.

For City the target is a striker and the Mercury interview conveyed the view that other targets were ‘low priority’.

Levein also said he does not want to lose any of his main players again, as happened with David Connolly in the summer, but admitted that ‘if the money is big enough it is hard to say no’.

However, he added that there were ‘contingency plans’ in hand in the event of any key players moving on.
