The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is a competition open to League One and Two clubs, and as Leicester are in the third tier of English football for the first time ever this includes us, and we have been drawn against Hartlepool.

City are in the Northern section and travel to Victoria Park, home of Hartlepool, in the first week of September for our round one match.

Bloody hell, Hartlepool is only a few miles short of the Arctic Circle, isn’t it?

Didn’t they used to send whaling ships out from that area, dig coal out from under the sea and have people who were made from the local iron and steel?

I played a cup game myself up there once. The pitch was in a subsidence area and we kicked uphill both halves. The wind was in
your face and the opposition had trained it to change direction at half-time.

City will need their away strip and thermal underwear from my experience, even in what they smilingly call summer up there.

Not sure but Hartlepool is supposed to have a more austere appearance even than Stockport so there’s not much point going up early for the sightseeing.

That said the team are said to be no mugs and Leicester can be assured of a battle royal. And if we play anything like we did at the bleak and drizzle-swept Accrington last season we’ll do well to win.
