Kisnorbo deal could help City

Talk is that Patrick Kisnorbo is attracting interest from Everton and Birmingham City as a potential transfer target.

It’s dog eat dog of course and just as we may be looking at Lincoln’s McAuley so the bigger fish are scouring our ranks.

Back in January almost any City fan would have welcomed Kisnorbo’s departure on the back of consistently poor performances in midfield.

But when Kelly converted him to centre-back Kisnorbo became a man transformed, producing an unbroken string of top class displays against tough opposition and in difficult places.

Indeed he was Man of the Match or close to it on several occasions.

As a young player few would now want him to leave but everyone has his price and especially as City have so little money to spend on players.

Some have mentioned figures as low as £1.5 million in which case it would perhaps serve us better to keep him.

But £2.5m or £2m plus a million in add-ons might prove hard to resist.

Mick Channon made an interesting comment about his racehorses. ‘My job is to train them not to fall in love with them,’ he said.

And so it is with Kisnorbo. He may be given an opportunity to fulfill his dreams but, equally, we need money to survive and build our squad.

If we could tie in a deal with someone like McAuley and pocket an additional £1.85m plus to secure Welsh and perhaps another player, while perhaps still having some over, that could be seen as progress.

Indeed, we might even increase our goal threat because McAuley can score and Kisnorbo is not noted in that department.

One of the big tricks in football management is buying and selling right.

Everton or Birmingham would doubtless be getting a bargain because Kisnorbo has shown himself to be fast, strong, committed, consistent and brave as a centre-back.

But, he’s served us well too and the money could be vital to securing our future, providing Kelly can use it well, or even get the chance to use it at all.
