Leicester left back Tom Kennedy has emerged as a target for Carlisle, according to the Carlisle News & Star.

Kennedy has only made one league start for the Foxes this season, and is yet to feature under Sven-Goran Eriksson in the first team.

Eriksson has also signed young Manchester City left back Greg Cunningham to bolster his backline, meaning Kennedy is now third choice in the position.

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott is desperate to add another player to his squad before Saturday’s trip to Bristol Rovers, and has reportedly sounded out a possible move for Kennedy to replace the injured Sean McDaid.

“We have got to try to find the right one,” Abbott said. “It`s proving difficult but we are hopeful something might be done before the weekend.

“We`re trying our best to make something happen.”

Kennedy joined City as Nigel Pearson’s first signing of the summer, but featured only three times in the Carling Cup under Paulo Sousa.

The 25-year-old arrived at the club highly-rated following three successful seasons at Rochdale, but has struggled to make any impact on first team proceedings.

And the full back could now seek first team opportunities elsewhere, with Carlisle now emerging as favourites to secure the player’s services.
