Paulo Sousa has moved for Leicester’s fourth signing of the summer with the capture of Vitoria Guimaraes midfielder Moreno.

Moreno, real name João Miguel da Cunha Teixeira, joins the Foxes on a two-year deal believed to be in the region of £330,000.

The 28-year-old was linked with a move to Premier League side Fulham under Roy Hodgson’s tenure last season, but has made the switch to the Walkers thanks to the influence of City’s Portuguese manager.

‘He (Sousa) convinced me to go to England. It was fundamental to speak with him,’ Moreno said. ‘He has known me for a while.’

According to sources Leicester beat off competition from several other clubs for the defensive midfielder’s signature, including Nigel Pearson’s Hull City.

Manager Paulo Sousa revealed his delight in securing the services of the player, saying: ‘Moreno is a player with a lot of experience at the top level of Portuguese football, and he will give us another dimension.

He is a strong player, and can play as either a defender or in the midfield. I am pleased we have been able to sign him.’

Moreno joins fellow Portuguese star Miguel Vitor at the Walkers Stadium for next season, Sousa’s continentinfluence already shining through.

The Leicester manager travelled to his home nation this week to discuss other possible transfers for the Foxes according to reports in Portgual.
