Manager Claudio Ranieri, and Danny Simpson give their final pre Crystal Palace press conference views ahead of the weekend’s action.

Audio – Ranieri On Vardy

Beginning with Ranieri and his final thoughts, he told lcfc.com that striker Jamie Vardy just had to keep on working hard this year following his scintillating form for us so far in front of goal that’s seen him return nine strikes to become the Premier League top scorer.

‘It`s good. I hope he can continue, but football is strange. Football is football. It`s fantastic but it`s not important to think about the goals, it`s important how he`s playing for the team. That is important for us. It`s the first year he`s showed his attitude in the Premier League. He scored 16 in the Championship and now he`s starting to learn. I hope he can improve again. If he can continue in this way, it will be fantastic. He must play and fight. That`s it. It`s important at the end of the match, his team-mates and the fans are satisfied with the performance.’

With Riyad Mahrez dropping to a substitute role of late, Ranieri was also full of praise for his impact and form so far this year, as he’s another that’s more than caught the eye of the wider footballing world.

‘Riyad can play everywhere because his skill is amazing. When he starts from the left and goes inside from the right he is dangerous, but he is dangerous everywhere. It`s important he runs with the ball in the middle. He has to stay calm and show his ability in the last 20 or 25 meters. This is the goal with him. He knows what I ask of him.’

Danny Simpson had more things to say when he was interviewed and in the first piece published he talked about the influence of Ranieri so far this year, crediting the gaffer for his attitude and support.

‘The manager wants one and two touch football. He emphasises that and we get the ball forward as quickly as we can because we know we`ve got very fast players. We`ve been working on that in training and I think you can see it on the pitch. We want to win it back as quickly as we can and get it forward as quick as we can. That`s been one of the big things we`ve done this season. He`s got different ideas and we take to them very well. He`s all about winning the ball back as quickly as we can and pressing the man. Whoever is closest to the man we get right onto him. That`s not just games, that`s in training everyday. He expects that from you whether you`re a striker or a defender. I think that`s taken us to another level in the games. Obviously he has other ideas and tactics but I think that`s been a key thing that he`s brought in terms of the players we`ve got and how we want to play.’

Simpson also talked about what a ‘massive game’ the upcoming Palace clash was, and how everyone in the camp was hoping for three points but also a clean sheet to bring an end to that particular hoodoo in 2015-16.

‘It`s a massive game. We`ve had two away games and got four points from them. We`ve got a home game now and obviously both teams are doing well. Hopefully we can go into it, get the fans on our side, use them as a 12th man and get three points that can help us push on.’

As for the clean sheet, Simpson joked everybody was looking forward to their free pizza and hotdog, but it’s obviously down to them to earn it.

‘We want our pizza and hot dogs! I think we know we can score goals so as a defender and for Kasper as a ‘keeper we want that clean sheet. For neutrals it`s been very entertaining and for the fans too. We are scoring goals so as long as we are scoring goals, that`s a big thing in the Premier League. We`re very similar. They`ve got fast players up front who like to play on the break and counter attack. We`re the same, as we`ve shown this season. I think if we can get that first clean sheet this season we`ve got the players up front who are scoring goals and creating chances – we can get three points if we do that.’
