Feed the horse and he will score

Geoff Horsfield became Leicester`s first loan signing yesterday when he agreed to join from Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season. The signing of “The Horse” was a necessity for Leicester who seem to have been missing a decent target man for the last 2 seasons.

Horsfield started his career off as a builder and he didn`t start playing as a professional footballer until 3 months before his 24th birthday. He first club was Halifax Town and he was an immediate hit for the club scoring 38 goals in 37 appearances in the 1997/98 season. Horsfield`s form attracted interest from Fulham and their manager Kevin Keegan.

So much so that Keegan signed Horsfield for £300,000 at the beginning of the 1998/99 season and “The Horse” had no problem stepping up a level. In the next two seasons he made 68 appearances scoring 25 goals.

Horsfield was to face disappointment when Fulham were promoted to the Premiership in the 1999/00 season only form them to sell him to Birmingham for £2.25m. He stayed at St Andrews for three seasons becoming a fans favourite and in his final season at the club he finally got to play in the Premiership, scoring 5 goals.

His first 6 years as a professional player saw him play for 3 clubs and rise from Conference player to Premiership player. Since then he has appeared for four clubs in as many years including Wigan, West Brom, Sheffield United and Leeds United. In total he has made 342 appearances in his 9 year career scoring 122 goals.

With all this experience Leicester fans will be hoping that the 33 year old can add a bit of presence and experience to the Leicester frontline. Hume, Hammond and Fryatt have all been inconsistent so far this season and with an experienced player to take some of the pressure off, it will allow them to concentrate on scoring goals.
