Leicester chief Sven-Goran Eriksson has heaped praise on Paul Gallagher, likening him to former England captain David Beckham.

Gallagher had a hand in all three of the Foxes goals in the 3-0 victory over Scunthorpe on Saturday, and Eriksson has lauded his creative forward after a glowing outing at Glanford Park.

“Gallagher’s right foot is special, he is not far from Beckham in terms of his delivery of set-pieces,” the Swede said.

Scot Gallagher was questionably dropped for City’s previous two fixtures against Queens Park Rangers and Norwich, but returned in style at the weekend to prove his critics wrong once again.

Indeed, it was a superb consolation free-kick from the bench in the Norwich defeat from the former Blackburn man which handed him his ninth league strike of the season.

While consistency may have been somewhat lacking in recent times, there is no question of his creative value to the side.

It is a fact which has not gone unnoticed by Eriksson, a relieved man in the aftermath of the Glanford Park triumph after four games without a win.

“Last Tuesday we lost to Norwich in a bad way,” he said. “We have talked a lot about it since and we were very concentrated and showed aggression, we have come back in a brilliant way.

“With nine games to go, if we can show the spirit we showed, we won’t lose many games and we’ll win a lot.”
