It is as if someone has doused blazing CV’s in water. And now, after all the hot air of first Steve Cotterill’s and then Mike Newell’s ‘no’, Leicester City’s managerial shortlist is looking distinctly charred.
Search the City fan websites and there is no obvious sense of direction.
Most posters think the safest thing is for Rob Kelly to guide the club, sink or swim, for the rest of the season.
Of the others mentioned, apart from Gudjon Thordarson of Notts county, the highly qualified former Iceland manager, it is not even certain who else might have applied.
Ian Holloway has been discussed as a possibility but who else is there?.
Cue legendary Talking Balls poster Mad Biker who mentions Martin Allen of Brentford. When MB posts a tip, people take notice but this wasn’t quite a tip, just simply, ‘There’s still Martin Allen to consider’.
By the fans or by the Board did he mean?
Allen is a known motivator.
His team are currently third in Division One with 51 points from 29 games and Soccerbase lists his managerial record as Played 104, won 48, drew 28, lost 28. So he has collected points from 76 or his 104 games.
Other names mentioned include Phil Parkinson, currently enjoying a great run of success with Division One league leaders Colchester (P168, W74, D48, L46), Steve Tilson of second-placed Southend (P129, W59, D35,L35) and even Dave Penney of Doncaster.
With the Brighton match almost upon us, any points return would likely work in caretaker manager Rob Kelly’s favour but, even so, the focus of speculation may now fall on Allen.

Just read Kamara’s Sky article which doesn’t put us in a good light yet again but I think lets batten down the hatches and let Kelly see us thru to the bitter end come what may.

You stated “You cannot take say five managers into an interview and then just pick whichever one shows up best, that’s just plain wrong.”

And again on the subject of Kamara I emailed this this: about your article on Leicester City all I can really say is what planet are you on? The board have done nothing wrong in asking permission to speak to Cotterill, Holloway or Newell and as for Holloway it seems to me that Paladini has seized on his chance to get rid of Holloway. You don’t just put someone on gardening leave because they spoke to another club not unless you have other reasons.
With regards to the bitter taste in your mouth, I felt worse when I saw that Dennis Wise is going to be one of your guests on Goals on Sunday – I won’t be watching.
Following on about the infamous Kamara, i emailed this to sky,
“To Chris and Co,
I find it hard to believe that anyone with any knowledge of football could write such an article like “Foxes hunt is a disgrace” then I realised the man in question was Chris Kamara.
Blissfully unaware of the facts Chris accuses Leicester of ruining Ian Holloway’s Q.P.R life despite the fact that is was Mr Holloway who approached his own board to ask permission to speak to Leicester.
His criticised their approach despite the fact that the problem lies with speculation and leaked information, that causes the problem, not the approach. How does Chris want it to be done then? Leicester drive around to the club they want and bundle their managerial target into the back of a white van. At the end of the day if a manager wants to go he will if not he won’t, it really is quite simple and isn’t that they way every club has gone about getting a manager for some time now.
I’m not saying it’s the correct way but singling out a team for it is wrong, biased, offensive and rude and Chris is the one who should be ashamed of himself for stirring it up and damaging the name of football even further.
I for one half lost that last ounce of respect I had for you Chris, it’s a shame cause for comedy value there’s none better at pitch side reports, however when it comes to the serious stuff please let someone else do it, for the good of football and your own reputation”.
I hope he gets the point.
