We’re in September but that doesn’t stop tabloid transfer rumours doing the rounds does it – this one concerns a return to Old Trafford for Danny Drinkwater.

The Sunday People – yes, yes I know – reported on Sunday (an achievement I feel for them) that Jose Mourinho wanted to make our England midfielder a top target for the January window as he continues to look to rebuild his now Manchester United side, but in advance of any deal, Claudio Ranieri has already decided to ‘demand’ Morgan Schneiderlin along with a pile of cash before he’ll entertain giving any deal his blessing.

The 26 year old former United Academy Graduate’s rise with us is well documented and with the lazy journalism that exists in this country from the Red Tops it’s now surprise to see somebody think ‘click bait’ and suggest he’s in line for a return.

£20million as a transfer fee is easy enough to invent, and the fact he’s signed a new contract with us recently isn’t going to get in the way of invention is it.

So there you have it, a ready made exclusive – in September – that suggests Drinkwater would welcome a return, and he’d so welcome a return he signs a new deal with us where no doubt contractually speaking, we’ve already learned from such low buy out clauses – thus making a deal more complicated.

Gotta love logic when it comes to the media and transfer speculation.
