Crewe vs Leicester

Crewe could be relegated from League One today if they fail to beat champions Leicester at Gresty Road.

Even a win for Gudjon Thordason’s men could see them go down; they must rely on Brighton losing and Carlisle not winning, not to mention the four goals they must make up on Brighton. A great escape it would truly be.

Manager Nigel Pearson has remained firm in his views that he would still field a strong team for the remaining games of the season, and his side could unfortunately place the last nail in Crewe’s coffin.

It would bring repressed memories back for Leicester fans, who suffered relegation themselves on the final day of last season, whilst Stoke were promoted. One would hope that Leicester’s fans would be gracious in promotion unlike their Stoke counterparts.

Vital Quotes:

Crewe manager Gudjob Thordason: We are playing the best team in the league, no question.

They took the lead early, and only good teams hold onto it. Nigel Pearson has done a great job there.

I think they are the best team by miles, so it will be a very interesting test for my team on Saturday.’

Leicester defender Jack Hobbs: ”We’re looking for a win – momentum is important and to finish on a high would be great, especially after the season we’ve had.

We are expecting a very determined performance from Crewe but, make no mistake, we are going there to win and we will be playing our hearts out.

They are fighting for their lives so I’m sure they will be giving everything but we are looking forward to it’

Crewe Alexandra Team News:

Captain Julien Baudet is a doubt for Crewe in this must-win game after injuring his ankle in Crewe’s 4-3 defeat to Stockport.

Player to watch: Billy Jones

Has been with the club since 2007, and has firmly established himself since then. 6 goals this season suggests he is a threat from set-pieces.

Leicester City Team News:

Leicester have a full squad to choose from, barring injured loaness who have already returned to their respective clubs.

However, Pearson may decide to introduce Astrit Ajdarevic for this first start for the club.

Top-goalscorer Matty Fryatt could also be resigned to the bench for resting purposes, with Paul Dickov first choice to replace him.

Player to watch: Andy King

I said it last game, and it didn’t happen, but he’s due a goal. The young midfielder has been one of the Foxes’ top performers this season, weighing in with some classy goals and vital assists.
