Having brought to you twice before news that nobody at all had covered until Sky Sports followed our article almost 1 month on, we now bring you the latest in the Bruno Berner episode.

In case you didn’t know, previously, we revealed that Berner was on trial with us but we can now reveal that it is looking that he will NOT be signing.

Despite the recent injury to Joe Mattock, set to keep him out for at least another 4 weeks at minimum, Aleksander Tunchev covered the left-back spot on Saturday’s game against Stockport.

But Tunchev may not be the long-term answer and it is now believed that we could be after 38 year-old full-back Chris Powell.

The former Derby and Charlton has recently been on trial at Bournemouth but nothing has materialised there yet and Nigel Pearson could be ready to swoop for the former England International.

More news to follow.

Chris Powell might be 38, but I think that he could do a job for us in the short term.

Short-term I think so too. But only on a 1-month, 2-month contract I would have to say.

  • Fox-About says:

Our problem seems to be that we don’t seem willing to sign anyone who we see as contesting Joe Mattock’s place.

Mattock has attracted interest from top clubs and it’s been widely, and probably right, quoted that he’s being “fast-tracked”.

Sheehan took the chance to leave despite what seemed to b a luke-warm contrct offer and I’m sure we could find a better left-back than Powell is likely to be.

But we don’t seem to want a permanent left-back so much a temporary one and that seems daft to me because Mattock has never looked as good as his Press.

He might become good but for me he’s a long way from being what I would consider an automatic choice and, anyway, we need a proper alternative, not a makeweight.
